I am a big believer in traditions. My husband claims I misuse the word though and while I know that traditions are supposed to be handed down from generation to generation, I will admit to calling something I want to repeat a tradition after one event. For some reason I am particularly prone to this at Christmas and anything from choosing and cutting down our own tree, to going to see the Snowman with Granny in the Concert Hall is a tradition in my book.
Catholic’s customs around First Holy Communion are definitely real traditions though and in this family the tradition has been marked by engraving the holy medal and this has been passed down from grandmother to mother to child. Generosity abounds at communions and children receive many gifts but how lovely to give the gift of a tradition, something they will remember forever and hopefully continue.
