I am a list maker. This has the benefit of meaning I am usually well prepared. The downside is it also means I always know the next 20 things I need to be doing.
So I sometimes struggle to be present in the moment, enjoying what is happening in the now because I am thinking about all the things I need to do later (or more usually that I should have done yesterday).
So this summer I plan to be a bit more like the mum in this family. I turned up when she was entertaining a full house of family and friends. She was looking after making sure all the guests had food and drink, coaxing her last child into their ‘photoshoot’ clothes while making sure I knew what photos were required.
But when I was taking photos of her and her family, I know she stopped thinking about everything else. She was really present in the moment, enjoying that time with her family and making memories.
Her children also had no problem being present in the moment.
So this summer I intend to be present whether I am playing with playdough, kicking a football or riding a bike with my children. I am going to make a big effort to put away my phone and not think of the things I need to do. This is what summer holidays are all about. I hope you enjoy yours.
